Amber Reid Returns to Lead Surry Knights Softball Program
DOBSON, N.C. — The Surry Knights softball program is welcoming back a familiar face as Amber Reid returns to the dugout, bringing experience, passion, and a deep commitment to student-athlete development.
Reid's return has generated excitement throughout the program and the surrounding community. Known for her energy, leadership, and dedication to helping players reach their full potential, she is expected to make an immediate impact both on and off the field.
"Returning to lead the softball program at Surry is an honor," stated Reid. "This program has always held a special place in my heart, and I am grateful for the opportunity to invest in the next generation of student-athletes. My commitment is to create a culture built on accountability and hard work, where our student-athletes grow not only as competitors, but as students, leaders, and people."
Reid was the inaugural head softball coach at Surry establishing the program in 2008. She helped lead the Lady Knights for five seasons capturing the 2013 Region 10 Championship and finishing as District Runner-Up.
As a former collegiate standout pitcher at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro, Reid brings a vision for the program that includes maintaining a strong work ethic, creating a competitive environment, and emphasizing the importance of teamwork. The East Surry graduate helped lead the Lady Cardinals to their first state championship in 1998.
"We are incredibly excited to have Coach Reid return as our head softball coach," stated Surry athletic director, Mark Tucker. "She brings optimism, leadership, and the promise of a bright future for Surry softball. Her knowledge of local softball talent and dedication to recruiting will help to strengthen our student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom."
The Lady Knights open their fall season on October 10 with the spring season beginning on February 10. Surry finished third last season in Region play after capturing the Region 10 Championship and Appalachian District Championship in 2025. The Lady Knights finished 5th in the NJCAA Division III World Series in DeWitt, New York.
